On Tuesday, Microsoft issued three updates for Windows 7 and Server 2008R2 platforms. The first one is listed as important and addresses an error that could be received when attempting to install a Windows update that contains drivers. None of these updates are security related. They are intended to reduce operating system errors when performing software updates.

Time-out error occurs when you install a Windows Update package that contains drivers on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Consider the following scenario:
You try to install a Windows Update package that is marked as Important on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
The package contains a driver. For example, the package contains the USBport.sys driver.
The computer is configured to install updates automatically or during the shutdown process.
In this scenario, the installation process stops at zero percent for five minutes and then fails with a time-out error.
Note This issue is more likely to occur on a slower computer or on a computer that has many devices attached.
